George Strait Invites Fans To Join Him Honoring Troops With Red Shirt Fridays

Press Release – Nashville, TN – This Friday, the King of Country Music is wearing red – not because it’s Christmas eve but to show his support for our troops as part of Red Shirt Fridays. The mission of redshirtfridays.org is to show support for our servicemen and women. It is not a political organization but a way to let our country’s servicemen and women know we support their sacrifice and will not forget them by wearing red on every Friday.

Strait, a veteran himself, wanted to join the efforts of www.redshirtfridays.org and invite his fans and fellow Americans to do the same.

“The holidays are a time to be with your family and friends and to be thankful and I can’t think of a better gift to the women and men serving our country than to show them how much we appreciate them and are thinking about them,” said Strait. “It’s a small gesture but together it does make a difference especially for those who can’t be here with us.”

"Starting this Friday we are going to wear red shirts to every Friday's tour date and we encourage the fans to do the same," exclaims Strait. "I want to see a building full of red shirts if possible."

Gwyneth Paltrow Dishes on Country Strong

As some of you know, I'm really looking forward to seeing Country Strong, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw. Paltrow sings the title track from the album and performed it live at this years CMA Award Show.

So needless to say, I was excited to see that AOL's The Boot (www.theboot.com) sat down in a Nashville studio with the Gwyneth Paltrow to talk about the movie and her challenges with playing Kelly. She also shares her thoughts about Music City's songwriting community, her new love and appreciation for country music and the artists who make it, as well as her obsession with the iconic Dolly Parton.

What made you want to take on the role of a country singer?

I was sent this script for 'Country Strong' when I was making 'Iron Man 2,' and I'm not a very good script reader. I'm not very responsive, I guess [laughs]. I've read so many bad scripts over the years that I stopped reading them at a certain point. But my friend Jenna was producing the movie, and she said, "You really should read this." So, I read it, and I got completely absorbed in the world, and it was such an amazing character. I knew nothing about country music. I was born in Los Angeles, and I grew up in New York City, and I wasn't really exposed to it. So, I was very daunted by the idea of taking it on, but I fell completely in love with the character and the world. So, I started doing research. I started with Hank [Williams] Sr. and Johnny Cash and just started educating myself. The amazing thing to me was I really fell in love with country music. I never expected that it would become a part of who I am. It was a completely unexpected side-effect of doing the movie. Now, I'll be having a party and my friends will be like, "What are we listening to?" And I'll say, "Miranda Lambert. Love it! It's the best thing in the world." I'm completely converted. The whole experience has been as surprising for me as it is for you.

Reba's 35th Number 1 Hit

Congratulations to Reba on her 35th No. 1 song! Her latest single, Turn on the Radio, climbs to the top of both the Mediabase/Country Aircheck and Billboard country charts this week.

"It's probably not as exciting as the first one, because that just blew us all away, but yes, it's very exciting," Reba tells The Boot. "I'm very honored and grateful that I get to do what I love so much at the level I'm getting to do it right now. Who could ask for anything more? Having a song at the top of the charts is a great way to end the year."

Reba's first No. 1 hit was back in 1983 with Can't Even Get the Blues? . Congratulations Reba! Looking forward to many more chart topping moments!

Shania Twain Engaged

Shania Twain is engaged! Twain’s manager confirmed the news, and that the couple has been engaged for a couple months. Thiébaud presented Twain, with a three-carat solitaire diamond ring.

Shania announced last year that her and the Swiss born Nestle executive were dating and constant companions. Frederic's now ex-wife, Marie-Anne Thiébaud, was a close friend of the country superstar and her then-husband Mutt Lange, and worked as house manager of the couple's Swiss estate. Marie-Ann and Mutt were accused of having a romantic relationship, thus contributing to the demise of both of their marriages.

In addition to wedding plans, Shania is also planning to star in her own reality TV show based on her life. 'Why Not? With Shania Twain,' an hour-long special on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, is expected to air in January. The show is said to follow the singer "as she begins her climb back to the top, a personal journey filled with risk, revelations and unexpected adventures."

Garth Brooks To Tour Again Soon?

Garth Brooks is already proving that he still has it as he wows Nashville audiences with his flood relief shows this week and a lot of fans are wondering just if and when ol' GB will hit the road again for another full-fledged tour.

While Garth didn't give us an exact answer, at a press conference this past Thursday, Garth did say that Trisha Yearwood, his wife for all of you living under a rock, gave him her blessing to go back out on the road around 2014-2015. At that time his youngest daughter, Allie Colleen, will have graduated high school and his contract in Las Vegas with the Wynn Encore Resort will have ended.

So, Garth fans, there is hope that he'll once again grace an arena stage near you in just a few years. I commend Garth for his commitment to his family before his career. We'll see you in a few years GB!
