Country Strong Tune Receives Oscar Nomination

Fresh off its nationwide release a couple weeks back, Country Strong, starring Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow, continues to be a hit and this time, not just with country music fans. The song “Coming Home” which was penned by songwriters Tom Douglas, Troy Verges and Hillary Lindsey and sung by Gwyneth in the movie has been given an Oscar nod in the Original Song category. “Coming Home” is up against “I See The Light” (Tangled), “If I Rise” (127 Hours) and “We Belong Together” (Toy Story 3) for the honor.

Other songs from Country Strong have proved to be popular with music fans and movie goers alike as well. The soundtrack is currently in the #2 spot on Billboard’s Top Country Album chart and #6 on the Billboard 200 for all genres respectively.

The 83rd annual Academy Awards airs Sunday, February 27th on ABC.

The song has garnered both a Grammy Award Nomination in the Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media Category and an Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics Category.

Airplay spins of Keith's music have now surpassed 70 million. Few if any artists who are continuing to have hits can claim such a distinction. And Keith is, if anything, consistent in his ability to connect with audiences over the radio, through his records and in concert. -BMI

Zac Brown Band Looking To Repeat 2010

Every once in a while I'll find a story that is worthy of sharing in its entirety. Recently Brian Mansfield, at USA Today published a special on the Zac Brown Band. The band shares how it felt to win the Grammy for new artist in 2010, collaborating with other artists, plans to feed their fans at shows, and why they'd like a repeat Grammy win.

To read the story in its entirety be sure and visit USAtoday.com.

NASHVILLE — For the Zac Brown Band's Chris Fryar, the magnitude of winning a new-artist Grammy last year came during the acceptance speech, when he looked into the Staples Center audience in Los Angeles and saw one of the category's previous winners.

"We were standing up there, thanking everybody that we had to thank, and I looked down at Ringo Starr sitting in the front row," says the drummer for the Georgia-based band. "He's won a best-new-artist Grammy, and there we were accepting one. It was a trip."

Since winning that award last January Brown, 32; Fryar, 40; and the band's four other musicians — guitarist Coy Bowles, 31; multi-instrumentalist Clay Cook, 32; fiddle player Jimmy De Martini, 34; and bassist John Driskell Hopkins, 39 — have gone about showing just how much they deserved the accolade.

Alan Jackson Leaves Arista Nashville

Alan Jackson has announced he has parted ways after 22 years with record label Arista Nashville. Jackson was the first artist signed to Arista Nashville after the label was founded in 1989.

I’ve had a great run with Arista, going all the way back to the beginning of my career.” I’ve gotten to work with some real great people along the way and we accomplished a lot. It just seems to me like the time may be right to change things up a bit and see what comes next.

Jackson is gearing up for the first leg of his 2011 tour with sold-out shows in Canada followed by his highly-anticipated first tour of Australia. He is currently writing and working on songs for his upcoming new album. No word on a future label yet.
